Wyoming is famous for the 1778 Battle of Wyoming during the American Revolutionary War which today is marked in tribute to the hundreds of lives lost by the Wyoming Monument.
In 1809 Thomas Campbell drafted a poem called Gertrude of Wyoming referring to the Wyoming Valley.
