Chester was originally known as Black River. The residents of the new settlement ended up naming their new home after their old one in England, though.
The town as had a history of a farming, manufacturing, and distillery. These days Chester is known for shopping, especially antiques.
The town is home to the Willowwood Arboretum, a lovely site for outdoor weddings.
